My teaching pursues the value of a liberal education. We read, discuss, and write about texts to develop skills needed to think critically and act well. My courses invite students to connect historical texts to their lives - practicing ‘living like’ ancient philosophers, for example - and philosophy with classics, literature, and other humanistic studies. Recent courses include surveys and seminars in Ancient Philosophy, Beauty and the Good Life, and How To Be Happy? Feel free to email me for syllabi or materials. I am proud to have received several teaching awards, including the Presidential Citation for Meritorious Teaching and the College of Arts, Languages, and Letters Excellence in Teaching Award at UH Manoa.

I have been privileged to work with and mentor a diverse group of students in Hawai’i, the Directed Studies Program at Yale, and as a Teaching Scholar fellow at Columbia. I volunteer with the Catherine Project and, through Rethink, facilitated political discussions with survivors of domestic violence in New York City.
